ROLO Operative Revision

The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) oversees the delivery of the ROLO qualifications to the UK land-based sector.

In April, we concluded a year-long training project for BALI, completing the development of a new, revised ROLO operative training course. The new course material that was created is to be used to support both the face-to-face and online training delivered by the BALI-approved training providers. This new course is designed to be far more interactive than the original BALI course, with trainers having more flexibility with the ability to adapt the materials to reflect the needs of their audiences. Those who attend this new course are expected to make contributions and participate fully in many learning exercises and activities. It is seen as essential that participants share their own experiences to help ensure that actual workplace safety practices are fully explored and understood.

A revised online test has been created to support the new course. This is again provided via BALI's own Moodle platform, ensuring that all test papers are unique. Three different papers, reflecting the sector's needs, are available to participants: Landscaping and amenity, Ecology and Environmental Management, and Arboriculture.

Special thanks to Alec Turnbull, John Wise of 85dB by UKHSS and Alan Stephens of Countryside Training for their support with this development.
