Our work continues with Western Maritime Training as they develop as an Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) Assessment Centre capable of delivering the SQA accredited Tug Master qualifications
We have supported their development in a range of areas which have included:
Assessor training – Providing assessor training to two experienced Tug Masters by introducing them to the
principles of assessing and assessment in the workplace. As part of the training, we were able to explore the assessment process in the context of Tug Vessel operations. It was interesting matching the assessment criteria that form the qualification to their practical application on a tug.
Assessment standardisation – Working with the technical team at Western Maritime Training we developed two sets of guidance documents to help standardise the assessment process for the SVQ tug operation units. We coordinated and advised on the creation of the guidance documents to be used by assessors to standardise the assessment process describing the evidence that candidates need to produce to be able to prove competence. The process also produced guidance materials for candidates to help them identify the evidence they need, to demonstrate competence against the different assessment criteria. SwiftTrack.
