SwiftTrack evaluation at Seaworks 2024

At the recent Seaworks exhibition, we conducted an evaluation of the SwiftTrack App for the Workboat Association. The apprentices have been using SwiftTrack to bolster their apprenticeship program for the past three years. It was a pleasure to interact with SwiftTrack users and gather their feedback on its use as an ePortfolio system. We had insightful discussions with training providers, assessors, employers, and a group of Workboat Apprentices to understand their perspectives on the SwiftTrack App as an evidence-collection tool. The apprentices were particularly impressed with how the evidence directly links to the assessment criteria, eliminating the need for time-consuming cross-referencing. The providers appreciated the easy access to assessment records and the simplicity of the progress review. Overall, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the apprentices expressing their admiration for the system's simplicity and practicality, which significantly enhanced their learning journey.

The apprentices and the training providers were able to point out some potential shortfalls in the system linked to both the system administration and the processes used for evidence collection. These shortfalls are useful for us because they focus on the system's further development needs and opportunities. Addressing shortfalls means continuous improvement and a better system for all.

We would like to thank Hazel Bennet of Western Maritime Training, Anne Hornigold of 54 North Training, Phillip Hoar of UKSA and Rachel, Simon and the apprentices from SeaRegs for their input into this evaluation.
