Case study: BALI ROLO Operative training

Pure Salmon is one of the world’s fastest-growing Atlantic salmon farming companies.

In 2021, following the successful introduction of the ROLO Supervisor and Manager programmes, RI Training was commissioned to review and update the ROLO Operative course to ensure consistency across all three qualification levels.

Working with a team of subject matter experts, RI Training undertook a comprehensive review of the course content and developed a completely refreshed suite of training and assessment resources. This included schemes of work, a new PowerPoint presentation with instructor notes, revised learner handouts and updated online assessments.

The learner handouts and end-of-course assessments are hosted on the ROLO Moodle platform. Each approved training provider has its own dedicated Moodle course, enabling them to deliver the programme while providing candidates with secure access to the training materials and online assessments. This approach ensures a consistent learning experience and standardised assessment process across the entire network of approved training providers.

The development process included managing industry consultation, piloting, and refining the resources. Prior to launch, a programme of industry trainer training and standardisation was completed.

The blended learning solution has been successfully implemented to train and assess thousands of land-based ROLO Operatives.
