Case study: Fisheries Research and Technical Consultancy

Alongside training and development work, RI also undertakes research and technical consultancy within fisheries and aquatic environments.

In 2023 we welcomed Dr Patrick Coutin as an associate consultant. Dr Coutin brings over 40 years of international experience in:

  • stock assessment for fish and crustaceans
  • aquatic habitat evaluation
  • fisheries management planning
  • scientific research and reporting

Dr Coutin has held prominent roles within the Australian Society for Fish Biology, including President (2007–2009), and has contributed to international collaboration through the World Council of Fisheries Societies.

In 2024 Dr Coutin completed his first assignment for RI, a research project examining the role of recreational angling in fisheries management.
