Case study: Seafish E-Academy Moodle learning platform

Seafish required the redevelopment and expansion of its e-academy platform to support revised Basic Safety Training courses and wider fishing industry training initiatives, including Introduction to Fishing and Class 2 certification programmes.

RI Training designed and developed a bespoke Moodle learning platform that modernised the existing e-academy while maintaining continuity for current users. Existing resources were reviewed, updated and transferred into the new environment, alongside the development of new digital learning content covering safety training, regulatory awareness and professional development.

The platform also introduced improved learner management functionality and supported the development of Seafish staff and training providers through Moodle administrator and tutor training.

The project resulted in the successful implementation of a scalable Moodle-based learning platform that supported the development of thousands of fishermen over more than 20 years. The e-academy became a central part of Seafish’s training strategy, improving access to learning and supporting consistent training standards across the fishing industry.
