Case Study: BALI ROLO blended learning solution

BALI required two new training programmes to support the training and assessment of Supervisors and Managers in the land-based sector. They required a modern training and assessment system that combined face-to-face delivery with online learning and e-assessment.

RI Training was commissioned to design and implement a blended learning solution to support the delivery of the ROLO Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness Level 3 and 4 Courses, a prerequisite for anyone applying for a LISS/CSCS SmartCard.

We commissioned a team of subject experts to specify the standards that underpin the role of land-based supervisors and managers. Once these standards were accepted by industry, the subject experts designed and developed the two sets of course materials. The materials developed included bespoke online learning resources, e-assessment materials, PowerPoint presentations, schemes of work, tutor guidance, candidate resources and standardised delivery materials to support consistent training across approved providers. The online resources were hosted on a dedicated ROLO Moodle virtual learning environment.

The development process included managing industry consultation, piloting, and refining the resources. Prior to launch a programme of industry trainer training and standardisation was completed.

The blended learning solution has been successfully implemented to train and assess many land-based supervisors and managers.
